Welcome to istop kiosks
istop touchscreen kiosks enable those people without internet access at home – 40% of the population – to access, free of charge, valuable online information.
By doing so they enable national and local organisations such as Jobcentre Plus to reach this important sector of the community who are otherwise digitally and socially excluded.
How? The kiosks are sited in local stores and post offices where they are easily accessible. Being touchscreen operated, they are also easy for those who are not computer literate to use with confidence. At the same time, they help to increase shopper traffic in the stores.
The facts:
- 39% of the population still do not use the internet
- Web usage has not increased since 2004
- 75% of people counted as socially excluded are also digitally excluded [Source: UK Online Centres Digital Inclusion Report 2007]
- Nearly 50% of Britain’s over 50s do not have access to a computer [Source: Intel & Age Concern Report 2006]
- 40% of the population do not have internet access at home [National Audit Office Report July 2007]
“Jobcentre Plus is delighted to work with istop in bringing a range of information and services to customers through its network of local kiosks. By linking customers to the Jobcentre Plus Jobpoint, the kiosks provide an invaluable resource for anyone looking for work or who may need information about welfare benefits. For each week this year, our website has received an average of two million user visits and handled an average of six million job searches – providing access to this service for even more people can only be seen as a good thing.” Shelagh Keyse, Director, Customer Services Directorate, Jobcentre Plus
